Svengoolie has been the premier horror show icon of Chicago, since multiple Emmy award-winner Rich Koz became the hand-picked successor to the original Svengoolie back in the late 1970s. He has appeared on a national basis on MeTV since April 2011, and generations of viewers have become fans of the monstrous mirth and movies that this video vampire dispenses every week over the airwaves.

Brief Biography

The character of Svengoolie was originally created by Jerry G. Bishop in 1970 for Chicago’s WFLD TV station. Rich Koz, who had been writing for the show, took over the role in 1979, initially as “Son of Svengoolie.” In 1995, with Bishop’s blessing, Koz dropped the “Son of” and became the current iteration of Svengoolie.

Born on March 12, 1952, in Park Ridge, Illinois, Rich Koz has been a fixture of Chicago television for over 40 years. His portrayal of Svengoolie has earned him a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim, including multiple local Emmy awards.
